ESORICS – this year with exclusive run-up tutorials
Run-up tutorials on current topics in cybersecurity research – ESORICS in 2021 to be held completely virtually again
This year's ESORICS – European Symposium on Research in Computer Security – will be held virtually. For the first time it will start with monthly tutorials in advance. The first two tutorials will be free of charge. The tutorial series will start at the end of June with cybersecurity expert Dr. Yossi Oren from Ben-Gurion University in Israel. DESORICS is one of the most prestigious scientific conferences in cybersecurity (Core Ranking A). This year, for the first time, tutorials will be held prior to the conference. The first two tutorials are free of charge, to enable as many interested people as possible to participate and to whet the appetite for the conference.
First tutorial on side channel attacks
Dr. Yossi Oren from Ben-Gurion University will kick off the tutorial series on June 30. The title of his talk is "PP0." The talk is on cache-based side-channel attacks, which occur via an Internet browser's cache, and appropriate countermeasures. Dr. Oren is a researcher at the Department of Software and Information Systems Engineering and a member of Ben-Gurion University's Cybersecurity Research Center. The second tutorial on July 12 will be given by Prof. Anna Squicciarini, associate professor at the College of Information Sciences and Technology, Pennsylvania State University.
Pre-registration for ESORICS open now
Those who would like to attend both tutorials can now register free of charge here: https://www.athene-center.de/en/news/events/esorics-2021-preregistration. All other tutorials can be attended with the purchase of a conference ticket – at least seven tutorials are currently planned. All tutorials will last between one and two hours. All speakers will provide a comprehensive look at the current research, followed by discussions with the participants. Questions and lively discussions are strongly encouraged. More tutorials are planned on transient execution attacks, industrial control systems, connected cars and airplanes, secure cryptographic coding in Java, and more.

The symposium will also feature 11 workshops on a variety of IT security topics. For the first time, poster sessions are planned as well. This year, the National Center for Applied Cyber Security ATHENE and the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology SIT are organizing the ESORICS Symposium. General Chair is Prof. Dr. Michael Waidner (ATHENE, Fraunhofer SIT and TU Darmstadt). Program Chairs are Prof. Elisa Bertino (Purdue Univ.) and Dr. Haya Shulman (ATHENE, Fraunhofer SIT).
